The 1593 and 1594 power amps work surprisingly well for guitar with a good tube preamp. Try one sometime.

I have in my Studio A. the 9846-8A Studio monitors Two way, two baffles…Buffer 15″ and driver 2″ with Horn and pasive crossover, To me…the most realy stunning sound ever ear…¡¡¡ Spectacular, Awesome, Never change them…Never…¡¡¡

I have a pair of 9849-8A (the smallest grey cabinets) studio monitors. Circa 1976. I had owned a pair that were only about 5 years in 1980, then life owned me.. and I sold them and it wasn’t very hard to unload them. I realized later on…a bit later on in 2016 I wanted another set. Mine came with the incorrect 16 Ohm 12″ inch woofer that goes along with the die cast VOTT Western Electric Horn and 802G driver. They should the 8 Ohm woofers, but not a real problem as they aren’t being pushed too hard. At low volume, they sound sweet. There is something about the Altec drivers of that time..not just the Alnico magnets, but how well they were made and the history of course behind all that engineering. I love them, they will be in my casket.
